Youth Program Coordinator (Secondary/Teen) - Lake Elmo, MN
The FamilyMeans’ Youth Development program is currently seeking a Youth Program Coordinator. The primary purpose of this position is to plan, provide and assist in evaluating age-appropriate enrichment and recreational activities for children grades 6-12; ages 11-18. This position provides a variety of enriching activities to a wide age range of children/teens on a daily basis, instills positive social skills and a responsibility ethic in children, and supervises programming in, and care of, the elementary/teen portion of the agency’s Youth Center located in Lake Elmo, MN. The incumbent would work 30 hours per week, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and would report to the agency’s Youth Program Manager. Hours can be shifted earlier on no school/summer days, as approved by the Youth Program Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement activities that encourage personal and social growth.
- Promote children’s/teen’s social skills through activities, mentoring and/or role modeling.
- Acquire and manage supplies needed to facilitate programming and meet program needs.
- Assist in data gathering and evaluation efforts.
- Recruit, train and manage program volunteers and County Workforce Program participants when applicable.
- Assist the Youth Program Manager with the training of new staff.
- Monitor and track program expenses via company credit card; providing necessary documentation to Finance department in a timely manner.
- Cultivate community awareness and support of programming.
- Provide connections/resources that support strong families.
- Develop and maintain sensitivity to employee diversity in the workplace.
- Develop cultural competence related to the services provided by the agency.
- Participate and contribute to the agency’s PQI process.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a high school diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree in youth development education, human development, sociology, education, recreation or other related field strongly preferred and/or a commensurate combination of education and experience.
- 3 or more years’ experience in community-based youth development preferred.
- Previous experience working for a nonprofit agency or in a human service environment preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish (oral and written proficiency) preferred.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a Class D License (valid driver’s license) required; ability to transport children by bus when needed
- Previous experience working as a group leader in a school-age care/youth development program is a plus.
- Ability to relate effectively and in a positive manner with children and adults from diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent mentoring and facilitation skills.
- Ability to transport supplies to and from program site.
- Commitment to work collaboratively with all staff, volunteers, program participants, and other supporters.
- Current certification in First Aid and/or CPR.
- Minnesota Certified Food Manager a plus.
