Youth Bicycle Program Leader (Part-Time, Seasonal)

Our Youth program is looking for a seasonal, part-time Youth Bicycle Program Leader for June 1, 2021 to August 27, 2021. The bicycle is a great vehicle to help youth learn skills, set goals, build fitness and explore their world. FamilyMeans seeks a person with proficient bike mechanic skills and a caring, optimistic, respectful attitude toward youth to be a site lead this summer for a successful youth bicycle program.

This 30-hour per week position involves teaching bicycle repair and leading bike rides for youth ages 6-18 in the Cimarron community of Lake Elmo, Minnesota. The Youth Bicycle Program Leader will work independently with up to 15 youth. Participants can earn bikes through their ride and repair efforts. The Program Leader is expected to model safe riding practices and safe and efficient repair techniques; help youth discover and build their interests and strengths that evolve through bicycling; expose youth to different types of cycling; expand their knowledge of their region through rides; and support them in reaching cycling-related goals. Ride lengths may range up to 60 miles. Co-leading a multi-day bicycle tour is a possibility. The Program Leader will also manage our bike repair facility in Cimarron, and collect evaluation data on program effectiveness.
