Mental Health Practitioner - Internal Position Only 

Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, provide assessments, diagnoses, and treatment to assist individuals, couples, and families cope with emotional, psychological, and behavioral problems, especially as related to grief, trauma, emotional distress, and life transitions. If working in schools: support the emotional, social, psychological, and behavioral health of students in a school setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assess, diagnose, and treat clients                                                                        70% of Time

  • Conduct initial assessment on individuals, couples, and families and review pertinent records to obtain diagnostic information on psychological, emotional, relationship or other problems. If working in schools: gather perspectives from school staff.
  • Complete Diagnostic Assessment and Diagnostic Reviews; developing diagnoses according to current DSM.
  • Collaborate with clients to create a treatment plan reflecting therapeutic work being conducted in sessions, including type, frequency, intensity and duration of therapy.
  • Reviewing treatment plans throughout treatment; adjusting as needed.
  • Provide regularly scheduled appointments for individuals, couples, and families, as needed for their specific presenting problems and associated diagnoses.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of counseling; modify treatment plan as needed.
  • Providing appropriate referrals as needed, referring for psychiatric care, or other care.

Conduct required clinical documentation and required paperwork                   20% of Time

  • Complete all required clinical documentation within required timeframes. This includes, Diagnostic Assessment/Review, Treatment Plans/Reviews, Progress notes, Consultation notes, collateral notes, and Discharge Summaries.
  • Submit all clinical documentation to Clinical Supervisor for review.
  • Complete client information required by insurance companies.
  • Complete and enter billing information for all sessions conducted.

Participate in all supervision & meetings required by the agency               5% of Time

  • Prepare and present cases within weekly individual supervision with Clinical Supervisor as well as group consultation, complete associated consultation forms.
  • Attend weekly individual supervision as well as weekly group consultation meeting.
  • Attend regularly scheduled department team meetings.
  • Participate in Peer Review process.
  • Serve on agency committees as appropriate.

  • Provide trainings, or topics of discussion, to the community, as requested.
  • If working in schools: collaborate with school staff on regular basis and communicate regularly with updates/referral status, etc.
  • Promote services that overcome cultural, socio-economic, and financial barriers.
  • Assist with writing projects for the department or sit on department specific subcommittees as formed/requested.
  • Assist to keep the environment welcoming to all clientele.
  • Develop and maintain sensitivity to employee diversity in the workplace. Behave in ways that demonstrate respectful treatment of other employees and clients. Develop cultural competence related to the services provided by the agency.
  • Participate in and contribute to the agency’s PQI process.
  • As with all FamilyMeans staff positions, this position is responsible for helping ensure volunteers and interns have an exemplary experience during all interactions with FamilyMeans and is expected to consistently maintain a high level of customer service to all guests, clients, and fellow team members.
  • Perform general clinical duties such as screenings, walk-in Q/A, coverage of clientele in other locations as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the mission of the organization.

Qualifications:

Education, Licenses and Certifications

  • Master’s level degree in Social Work, Psychology, Professional Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy is required.
  • Status as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker and under necessary supervised supervision, a Marriage and Family Therapist working towards the License Associate Marriage & Family Therapy and under necessary supervised supervision, or Professional Counselor working towards the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and under necessary supervised supervision

Experience

  • Clinical experience may include internship experience as well as any hours obtaining necessary clinical hours under supervision until licensure is obtained.
  • Experience working as a Mental Health Practitioner and/or in an outpatient setting for at least one-year, post-graduation, is preferred. If working in schools: Experience providing clinical treatment in a school-based setting for at least one-year, post-graduation is preferred. 
  • Experience and/or training in specific Evidence-Based Treatment Modalities is desired.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of mandatory reporting, duty to warn, reportable criminal behavior, and identification of the clinical indicators of suspected abuse and neglect.
  • Previous training, or education, will include knowledge of: evidence-based practices, psychosocial and ecological perspectives, child development, individual and family functioning, understanding the impact of mental health on the individual and their families, importance of developing clinician/client relationship, impact trauma plays on individual and their families, crisis intervention, assessment criteria for psychiatric referral, and understanding dual diagnosis and treatment implications.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Familiarity with the current DSM criteria for diagnosing.
  • Broad range of clinical interventions to utilize with clientele.
  • Ability to write comprehensive progress notes, reports and treatment plans to maintain clinical records.
  • Experience with Procentive or other electronic health records system.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively with all staff, volunteers, program participants, and other supporters.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting individuals and families from various cultural backgrounds.

Physical and Mental Demands:

The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires frequent use of hands to grip or touch objects or controls.  Requires substantial use of a computer. Must have the ability to occasionally lift, move or carry up to 10 pounds. If working in schools: employee must also move about the school building throughout the day.This position requires comprehension, reasoning, decision making and ethical considerations to perform the essential functions of the position as well. Must be adaptable and respond effectively to changes in situations or information.  Must be able to handle stress and unstable or emotional client behavior.

Working Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position typically works in a general office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate. Telehealth portion will require extended periods of sitting and interacting via the computer with clients. 

 

Location: This position may be located in a clinic setting, a school setting or some combination of multiple locations

Pay: $55,000-$63,000 for a 1.0FTE individual requiring supervision, if you are hired at a lower FTE this wage will be pro-rated.  This will also be calcualted based on your years of experience.  If you are an individual who no longer requires supervision this may vary.
