FamilyMeans Background and History

FamilyMeans Sign

Founded in 1963 by Stillwater area community leaders, FamilyMeans provides education, counseling and support services sought by individuals and families as they face changing and challenging times in their lives.

FamilyMeans staff and volunteers work to maintain accessibility, affordability and adaptability for those we serve. Services are available to all who request help regardless of the ability to pay and because we are a locally-based agency, we are positioned to meet the needs of people in our community. FamilyMeans is small enough to respond quickly to newly identified needs and to discontinue services no longer needed, yet a large enough agency to draw experienced staff with exemplary skills and a wide range of competencies. We partner with others to improve the quality, scope and effectiveness of the programs and services we offer.

In 2003, FamilyMeans moved into a new headquarters in Stillwater following a successful capital campaign to raise funds for both a new building and a facilities maintenance fund. As a result, our programs are provided in a debt-free, welcoming and easily accessible building. Financial stability has been a hallmark of FamilyMeans through the years and ensures we will be a trusted and reliable local resource for decades to come.
