Accessible from just a short walk from the school bus stop or along the community walking paths, the Cimarron Children’s Program offers a mix of activities which help expand children’s experiences, gets them active and connects them to the community and caring adults. Art and dance programs encourage expressiveness and help build a sense of technical mastery. Children learn about the nutritive value of foods, then prepare their own healthy snacks during weekly nutrition classes. Kids can curl up with a book from the mini-library, or sit down at the computer and game stations for more self-directed activities. A homework table enables children to get academic help from staff or volunteers. Kids burn energy during outdoor games, on the playground, and during summer soccer. Children’s Program field trips expose kids to local history and culture, as well as fun places like the water park. Cimarron children have most often reported that their program experiences have enabled them to learn new things, make new friends and get along better with their peers.
