Summer Fun with Youth Development

Jul 25, 2024

Our Youth Development participants are on the move! This summer, 25 youth in our programs have signed up for the bike clubs and have participated in rides. We are starting to get rides in the double digits, which means more safety even more excitement! We have partnered with Bikes 4 Kids again this year to provide youth with their own bicycles. So far, 7 youth have received bikes to use on our rides and many are riding their bikes that they received last year from our partner.

Youth have been on many biking adventures thus far this summer, usually with a treat along the way. We have ridden to McDonalds, Dairy Queen, the Maplewood Nature Center, Lake Elmo Park Reserve, FroYo in Woodbury, and the Gateway Trail. Upcoming rides include the Stillwater Bridge Loop, Gateway and Browns Creek Trails and the Bridge the Valley Bike Rally 10-mile ride for certain riders.

We recognize many benefits of a bicycling club, from socialization, physical activity, and exploration. In the past two summers, youth have increased in their strength and stamina as well as their confidence level on bicycles.  They have also increased in their ability to encourage others and their knowledge of bike maintenance.

If you see the FamilyMeans Bike Clubs out and about, give us a honk (that’s their favorite!) and a shout hello. We may be biking by a place near you soon!
