Sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes in this country. Yet, one out of every six American women and one out of every thirty-three American men report that they have been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime.

Victims of sexual assault are;

  • 3 times more likely to suffer from depression
  • 6 times more likely to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder
  • 13 times more likely to abuse alcohol
  • 26 times more likely to abuse drugs
  • 4 times more likely to contemplate suicide

Victims may have been threatened. Victims may feel shame or embarrassment. They could just want to forget it happened at all. This type of victimization can affect one’s life in many different and unpredictable ways. Nightmares. Flashbacks. Feeling unsafe wherever they go. Anxiety. Insomnia.

There is hope. FamilyMeans has trained clinicians who can help. Whether you or someone you know has been assaulted, we are here for you. Whether you are ready to process your story or the feelings and impacts something is having on you, we are here for you.
