St. Croix Garden Tour to mark 20 years in July

Proceeds benefit Stillwater-based FamilyMeans

STILLWATER, Minn., Feb. 22, 2012 – Twenty years ago Stillwater-based FamilyMeans was set to kick off its first-ever St. Croix Garden Tour, an event that has now awed and inspired attendees with feature gardens and creative ideas for two decades.

For the first time in the event’s history, this year’s tour will feature residential gardens from previous years. One of these gardens is that of Lake Elmo resident Tom DeGree, whose garden was on the tour in 2008. Since then, Tom has taken the lead to chair the garden tour committee.

“Tom provides wonderful volunteer leadership for this event. He is committed not only to making the garden tour a success, but to capturing the mission of FamilyMeans,” said Arba-Della Beck, president of FamilyMeans, noting the agency’s mission is to strengthen communities by strengthening families. “The garden tour is such a fun summertime event. It’s a great way to get outdoors and meander through the yards of welcoming homeowners to see the creativity, skill and ideas that go into their gardens. Each one is unique.”

The St. Croix Garden Tour event proceeds support FamilyMeans, a nonprofit that provides counseling and mental health services; collaborative divorce; financial counseling and bankruptcy services; caregiver support; youth enrichment programs; and an employee assistance program. FamilyMeans (www.familymeans.org) reaches more than 23,000 people each year.
