Better is Possible.
Application Process
Due to the sensitve nature of our volunteer work, we conduct a thorough application process. Below is what to expect:
Filling out an application ~ 15 Minutes
The first step will be to fill out an application. This will require you to make an account with our volunteer software "Better Impact". You'll be asked to provide contact information, add three references, and answer questions based on the opportunity you are applying for.
Fingerprinting ~ 1 Hour (2-3 Weeks for Results)
After you submit your application, FamilyMeans staff will reach out to you with a link to schedule your fingerprinting appointment for your Federal and State Background Check. This step is required by Minnesota Law for anyone working with youth or vulnerable adults. Once you have your fingerprints done you will bring one of the cards to our Stillwater location and fill out an authorization forrm.
*If you have anything on your record that you are unsure would disqualify you from volunteering, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Dan Bohnker, at dbohnker@familymeans.org.
Orientation ~ 30 Minutes to 1 Hour
Once we get your background check back, assuming there is nothing disqualifying, we will set up an orientation to learn policies, procedures, and be given more information. Once completed, you are cleared the volunteer!
